Riot Games has announced a new League of Legends tournament, Legends Ascend South Asia, which will be a part of the LoL Championship Pacific (LCP) ecosystem.
The game developer has partnered with a venture capital firm, Aftermath Ventures, to create the open-for-all online amateur tournament.
The formation of the competition marks a bold move from Riot Games to create new opportunities for aspiring pro players from the Southeast Asian region, bolstering the LCP ecosystem.
The tournament will run for four months and include a robust tournament structure with three open qualifiers, a round-robin group stage, and a double-elimination knockout stage, with an INR 1 million (≈US$11,713) prize pool.
“Legends Ascend is about giving players in South Asia a real shot at competitive League of Legends,” said Arun Rajappa, Country Manager India & South Asia at Riot Games.
“It’s a step towards building a stronger, more connected community where players and fans can all find more ways to play, engage, grow, and be part of something bigger.”
Legends Ascend South Asia will be open to players from India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, and the Maldives, who can sign up for any of the three open qualifiers.
The winning team will qualify for the LCP Wildcard Playoffs, where they will battle it out for a spot in the LCP promotion and relegation tournament and a chance to join the region’s premier League of Legends competition.
The round-robin stage will take place from June 13–20, while the playoffs are scheduled for July 25 until August 3.
