HEROIC, Wildcard, B8 & FlyQuest go 2-0 at the BLAST.tv Austin Major, while four teams face elimination after a chaotic opening day in Texas.
The first day of action at the BLAST.tv Austin Major delivered everything fans could want, featuring highlight-reel plays, shocking blowouts, and a few clutch-fueled thrillers, as Stage 1’s opening two rounds wrapped up in Texas.
Four Counter-Strike 2 teams—HEROIC, B8, FlyQuest, and Wildcard—ended the day unbeaten, moving within one series win of Stage 2 qualification, while four others—Fluxo, Metizport, Imperial, and Chinggis Warriors—stumbled twice and now face early elimination.
The day began in explosive fashion as Nico “nicoodoz” Tamjidi posted a 3.08 rating, one of the highest on record, to power OG past Complexity 13-3. Meanwhile, HEROIC followed with a Pick’Em-saving second-half storm against Chinggis Warriors, which revealed the opening round pattern, with top teams claiming dominant wins.
B8 and Imperial Esports bucked the trend, trading blows across 30 rounds on Inferno. The match hinged on a stunning 1v4 clutch from Andrii “npl” Kukharskyi in round 21, swinging momentum in the Ukrainian side’s favour as they edged out a 13-10 win.
Lynn Vision gave Chinese fans something to cheer about early, beating Legacy to claim Asia’s first win at the Major. But their joy was short-lived.
In the 1-0 round, Wildcard clawed back from a 5-1 deficit on Nuke to force double overtime and edge Lynn Vision 19-15. It was a bruising result for the Chinese side, compounded by a Tim “susp” Ångström ace and a Josh “JBa” Barutt Deagle quad-kill during the comeback.
Earlier, Wildcard had already trounced Metizport 13-1 in the battle of twin brothers, with Adam “adamb” Ångström and Tim “susp” Ångström facing off in a rare sibling showdown.
Teams looking to bounce back in the second round found varying degrees of success. Complexity, after an embarrassing opener, regrouped to down Fluxo on Inferno. A brief Brazilian resurgence to 8-8 was cut short by key clutches from Paytyn “junior” Johnson and Michael “Grim” Wince.
TYLOO recovered from their earlier loss to NRG with a 13-4 dismantling of Metizport on Mirage. Jingxiang “Mercury” Wang and Qianhao “Moseyuh” Chen led the way, showing poise as Metizport faltered.
Legacy came out on top in a chaotic Nuke battle against Chinggis Warriors, while Nemiga capped the day by outclassing Imperial, putting the Brazilians at real risk of an early exit.
Day two sets the stage for some season-defining clashes. HEROIC and FlyQuest meet in the 2-0 pool’s marquee matchup, while B8 will try to stop a surging Wildcard.
Elsewhere, Complexity vs NRG headlines the 1-1 pool, an all-Americas clash with plenty of firepower and storylines. BetBoom vs Legacy fills out that bracket.
Meanwhile, Fluxo vs Chinggis Warriors and Imperial vs Metizport are true do-or-die fixtures. A third loss spells elimination and an early trip home.
With plenty on the line, day two of the BLAST.tv Austin Major promises just as many twists, highlights, and heartbreaks.
