The Halo Championship Series (HCS) has confirmed that Halo Infinite will be retired from official esports competition following the 2025 Halo World Championship in Seattle, set for October 24–26.

This marks the end of a four-year run for Infinite as the franchise’s flagship competitive title since its launch in 2021.

In a statement on Halo Waypoint, esports lead Tahir “Tashi” Hasandjekic announced that this year’s World Championship will be Infinite’s swansong.

While the game will still receive updates and limited community tournament support in 2026, HCS will place its official circuit on hiatus as the franchise transitions to its next phase.

“Over the next few months, the HCS will host the two planned Majors and the highly anticipated Halo World Championship,” Hasandjekic said.

“Once a world champion is crowned in October, the HCS will be retiring Halo Infinite from official competition.”

He thanked fans, players, and partners for their support during what he called a “special period” in the franchise’s 24-year history.

The decision arrives amid intense speculation about Halo’s future in esports. Reports suggest a new mainline Halo title is in development, potentially leveraging Unreal Engine 5, with a reveal expected in 2026 to align with the franchise’s 25th anniversary.

While some rumors point to a Halo: Combat Evolved remake, insiders believe a new multiplayer-focused title will be necessary to anchor future HCS events.

Until then, Halo Infinite’s farewell tour will continue with two final Majors in Salt Lake City and Charlotte, leading up to the Seattle World Championship.

The event is expected to provide the first official teaser of Halo’s next competitive chapter, signaling a pivotal moment for one of esports’ longest-running franchises.
