G2 Esports and Team BDS will clash on Sunday, February 11, in the fourth round of the League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC) 2024 Winter Playoffs. The winner will advance to the finals and take one step closer to securing a direct invite to the 2024 Mid-Season Invitational.

G2 Esports entered the 2024 season as the strongest European LoL team and the main candidate to claim the LEC trophy. On the other hand, Team BDS weren’t expected to accomplish much; however, they have proved all the doubters wrong.

Even after finishing the regular season with a 7-2 record, many pundits expected Team BDS would struggle to keep their wheels spinning. The unusual team compositions and a few lucky wins throughout the regular season didn’t help. Even so, the French squad has emerged as a serious threat to win the title.

By crushing Team Heretics and Team Vitality in the opening rounds of the LEC 2024 Winter Playoffs, BDS proved they can compete for top spots. Yet their true test starts this weekend.

Team BDS’s performance stats are interesting. They have the league’s third-worst gold difference at 15 minutes (-276) but the highest first tower rate (78%) and mid-game rating (35.2). To put it in perspective, G2 Esports have by far the best gold lead at 15 minutes (+805) and the second-best mid-game rating at just 16.2.

Despite being a very weak team in the early game, Team BDS come online in the mid-late game, where they tend to gain the most significant leads. This isn’t shocking, considering BDS do exceptionally well in teamfights and usually struggle during the laning phase.

Talent-wise, G2 Esports are miles ahead of BDS, which should show during the laning phase. But unless G2 find a way to snowball their lead, they might find themselves struggling to close out the game.

This is G2 Esports’ game to lose. But given the blunders G2 have made this season, it’s fair to expect Team BDS to win at least one map on Sunday.
