Dreamhack Anaheim is a unique esports event given that it features many different games. In 2020 the following games will be played at Dreamhack Anaheim.

Fortnite

Fortnite

Fortnite at Dreamhack Anaheim will be a solo tournament, with the age limit of 13-17 years and an attractive prize pool of $250,000. The format of the tournament is quite interesting since anyone can sign up for the first stage and will be divided into two heats, yellow and blue. Only the top 200 players of each heat will make it to the second stage. After the second only top 100 players will qualify for the grand finale. Each stage will last for 10 games and in the end, the winner will take home $30,000. The organizers have been generous in the prize pool distribution as all the top 100 players will get some piece of the $250,000.

Magic: The Gathering

Published by Wizards of the Coast, Magic: The Gatering is a digital collectible card game that will be making its way to Dreamhack Anaheim. The competition will be played in Swiss format and will have a prize pool of $100,000. Up to 300 people will compete in opening 10 Swiss rounds, and only the top 32 will make it to the playoffs. All the matches of the playoffs will be played in the best-of-three format and the tournament will be held under the regulations of MTGL Arena Tournament Mode. Aside from the $30,000 prize, the winner will get a direct invite to the next Mythic Invitational which will be held in May 2020.

Dreamhack has always been a solid supporter of the emerging CS:GO teams in the competitive landscape and things don’t change in February. The newly established teams will compete for supremacy at Anaheim. After going through the online qualifiers, eight teams will be participating in the tournament and will be eyeing the lion’s share of the $100,000 prize pool. The first phase of the tournament will be the group stage where teams will be split into two groups. The sides will compete in a double-elimination format, where the first game of each group will be best-of-one. Meanwhile, the tiebreakers and elimination games will be played in the best-of-three format. The two teams of each group will make their way to the second phase. The second phase in the playoffs, which will be played in the best-of-three single-elimination format. The winner will take home $50,000.

The first-ever Halo: Reach PC tournament will be held ad Dreamhack Anaheim with a prize pool of $50,000. The competition format has been split into three phases. The first phase is the Open bracket which will be contested by the 64 teams. All matches of this bracket will be played in the best-of-five, double-elimination format. The top four teams will qualify for the next bracket, Pool Play. Meanwhile, teams that will finish at 5th to 8th spot will have to fight from the elimination round of the Championship Bracket. Sixteen teams will compete in the Pool Play bracket, which will include the 12 top teams of the UGC qualifiers and the four teams of the previous bracket. All the matches of this stage will also be played in the best-of-five format. In the last stage in the Championship stage, all the matches before the EB- & WB Finals will be played in the best-of-five format. Meanwhile, the best-of-seven format will come into play at the grand finals.

Dreamhack has partnered with ESL to establish a new eSports platform for Warcraft III: Reforged. The Warcraft Open is under the events of the ESL Pro tour, which plans to distribute over $190,000 in 2020. The Dreamhack event will host $25,000 prize money. Aside from the attractive cash, players also have the opportunity to earn points for WC3 Championship 2020. The organizer will announce the details of the format in the next few days.

The success of the mentioned MMO, RPG and battle royale titles might have cast a shadow over the popularity of the arcade title. But Dreamhack has other plans, the organizer has planned to hold open tournaments where the audience can also participate. The arcade game included in the fighting game championships are Pokken, Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, Melee Doubles, Super Smash Bros, Super Smash Bros Ultimate Doubles, Super Smash Bros Melee, Super Smash Bros Ultimate and Tekken 7. The overall prize pool of these titles is $12,500.

Hearthstone

Dreamahack will host a $2,500 1v1 Hearthstone tournament. It will follow the best-of-five Conquest format. Day 1 will feature 5 Swiss rounds, Day 2 will have 4 Swiss rounds and Day 3 will pave the way for playoffs.


Dreamhack Anaheim history

Dreamhack Anaheim is being held for the first time, and it marks the first time the organizer has held a gaming festival on the US West Coast. The weekend esports extravaganza will last for the entire 72 hours for the three days. Aside from the above-mentioned eSports tournaments, the event will also feature, live music, bring your own computer (BYOC) LAN party, expo art panel and cosplay championships.

In 2019 Dreamhack had incredible success as it hosted tournaments in major corners of the globe, which includes, Rotterdam, Netherlands (DreamHack Rotterdam); Dallas, TX (DreamHack Dallas) and South America (DreamHack Rio).

Dreamhac is yet to announce whether Anaheim will be one-off event or will carry on in future years.
