The Chiliz Group, parent company of blockchain fan-engagement platform Socios.com, has acquired a 51% controlling stake in OG Esports, marking a major step for both the Web3 leader and one of Europe’s most storied esports organizations.

Founded in 2015 by Dota 2 icons Johan “n0tail” Sundstein and Sébastien “Ceb” Debs, OG Esports rose to global fame after winning back-to-back titles at The International in 2018 and 2019 — a first in Dota 2 history.

Since then, they have diversified into several titles, including Counter-Strike, Honor of Kings, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, and the upcoming Marvel Rivals, while maintaining a reputation for fostering innovation and a strong player-focused culture.

The Chiliz Group acquire OG Esports

The move comes on the heels of the success of the $OG Fan Token, which became the first blockchain-based esports asset on Socios to surpass a $100 million market capitalization.

Launched in 2020, the token provides fans with voting rights, VIP experiences, merchandise opportunities, and other perks, helping OG pioneer a thriving digital fan economy.

As part of the deal, longtime shareholder and executive Xavier Oswald will take over as CEO, guiding OG’s next chapter.

Co-founders n0tail and Ceb will shift their focus to a new strategic initiative aimed at strengthening OG’s competitive foundation and driving fresh innovation at the intersection of esports and Web3.

Chiliz CEO Alex Dreyfus described the acquisition as a showcase for “Fan Tokens 2.0”, envisioning new layers of engagement such as token-based governance, NFT ticketing, and on-chain loyalty programs.

Socios.com will also become the exclusive wallet and engagement hub for $OG, positioning it as a flagship example of how digital fan assets can evolve.

With financial backing from Chiliz and access to its global network of over 80 sports and entertainment properties, OG aim to expand their reach, scale their teams, and solidify their presence across international esports.

From Counter-Strike stages to mobile gaming arenas, OG will keep their original mission of player excellence and community-driven growth at the forefront.
