Team Vitality

Team Vitality have cemented their status as the undisputed kings of Counter-Strike 2 in 2025, taking out The MongolZ 2-1 in the BLAST.tv Austin Major grand final. The French-led international squad bounced back from a shaky start on Mirage to dominate Dust2 and Inferno, lifting their first Major trophy of the year and closing out the first half of the year in style.

The grand final clash was a tale of momentum swings and high stakes. Mirage, the Mongolian side’s map pick, opened with a bang as The MongolZ stunned the esports betting sites favourites with a 13-5 thrashing. Explosive play from Azbayar “Senzu” Munkhbold and Usukhbayar “910” Banzragch tore through Vitality’s setups, with the underdogs taking six unanswered rounds to close out the map.

But as champions do, Vitality responded with force. Dust2 proved to be their proving ground, where Dan “apEX” Madesclaire’s men showed composure and control from the outset. A flawless 6-0 start on the counter-terrorist side set the tone before Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut took over, and despite a brief resistance from Senzu, The MongolZ folded 13-4.

Inferno was the decider, and it didn’t take long for Vitality to assert dominance. ZywOo’s early clutch and apEX’s defensive leadership helped Vitality to a commanding 9-3 half-time lead. The MongolZ showed heart—most notably through a heroic 1v2 from Sodbayar “Techno4K” Munkhbold—but the gulf in experience proved too much. Vitality closed out the series 13-6, sealing a 2-1 win and their eighth tournament title in 2025.

This win adds to an already staggering year for Vitality, which includes trophies at IEM Katowice, ESL Pro League Season 21, and IEM Dallas. For apEX, it marks his third career Major, placing him among Counter-Strike’s elite. ZywOo continues to etch his name into history, with another MVP performance likely placing him alongside legends of the game, such as Marcelo “coldzera” David and Nicolai “device” Reedtz.

While The MongolZ couldn’t deliver a historic first Major for the Asia-Pacific region, their grand final showing proved they belong among the elite. For Vitality; however, the message is clear: 2025 is their era.
