The comeback victory ends a run of five consecutive losses in grand finals for the Spanish organisation.
Team Heretics ended their long title drought when they reverse-swept Fnatic to claim the VALORANT Esports World Cup 2025 trophy in Riyadh on Sunday.
It marks their first tournament victory since Crossfire Cup 2022 and ends a streak of five grand final losses over the last 18 months.
The VCT EMEA representatives travelled to Saudi Arabia priced as +1200 underdogs in outright markets with the top betting sites, and their early form was anything but inspiring.
Benjy “benjyfishy” Fish and co. nearly exited the event in the second round of the group stage, but they managed to edge out a 2-1 victory against Titan Esports Club in the elimination match.
After the elimination scare, Team Heretics shifted into a higher gear and rolled over VCT Pacific Stage 1 champions Rex Regum Qeon, adding a dominant victory against regional rivals BBL Esports in the knockout stage.
In the semifinals, Heretics faced Gen.G Esports, who did not fall easily. But the European squad proved they can perform in clutch moments and closed out the series 2-1 with a 16-14 overtime win on Lotus.
For the final matchup, Team Heretics entered the arena as underdogs against a red-hot Fnatic, who crushed them 3-0 in the VCT EMEA Stage 1 finals.
The rematch started much the same, with Fnatic taking a two-map lead with blowout victories on Lotus (13-4) and Sunset (13-1).
But as everything seemed lost, Heretics gained a second wind on Icebox, where they edged out a 13-11 victory.
The fourth map did not start well for the underdogs, who trailed 3-9 on Haven before the switch.
However, they more than made up for the poor defensive display on the attacking side, collecting 10 out of the final 11 rounds to complete a turnaround 13-10 victory.
After that stunning comeback to tie the score at 2-2, Heretics rode that momentum to close out the grand finals with a 13-10 win on Ascent.
While Heretics’ heroic reverse-sweep ended their long grand final curse, it has started one for Fnatic, who have now lost consecutive deciders at VALORANT Masters Toronto and EWC 2025.
However, even though the loss on Sunday will sting the Black & Orange, they head into VCT 2025 EMEA Stage 2 as the outright favourites.
Top VALORANT betting sites have Fnatic priced at +200 to win the final stage of the season, ahead of Heretics (+300), Team Liquid (+500), and BBL Esports (+650).
VCT 2025 EMEA Stage 2 kicks off on Wednesday, July 15.
