Team Heretics have locked in their new League of Legends roster for the 2023 League of Legends European Championship (LEC) season with the signing of former G2 Esports jungler Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski and former DetonatioN FocusMe mainstay Shunsuke “Evi” Murase.
Aside from both veterans, Team Heretics have also recruited Lee “Ruby” Sol-min, to fill up the mid lane position, and former Misfit Gaming support Mertai “Mersa” Sari. These new additions will be joining the team’s resident bot laner Jakob “Jackspektra” Kepple, who is the only player on the 2022 roster to be retained for the upcoming season.
Heretics took to their Twitter page to reveal their new starting roster ahead of the 2023 LEC Spring Split.
Jankos has achieved great success in the LEC, winning five titles and reaching the top four at the LoL World Championship on four occasions. Additionally, he has won the Mid-Season Invitational.
In contrast, Evi has dominated the Japanese league with nine domestic championships and has only missed out on the World Championship once since 2017. Although he has not yet made a significant impact at international tournaments, he is highly regarded for his exceptional gameplay and affable personality.
Ruby and Jackspektra will be making their LEC debut in the 2023 season. Both players have spent the majority of their careers in various leagues worldwide. For Mersa, this will be his second year in the league, having helped Misfits reach the playoffs in both splits last season.
Aside from the new players added to the roster, Team Heretics have made some changes to their front office and coaching staff. They demoted the 2022 coaching staff — including head coach Fayan “Gevous” Pertijs and his assistant coach, Ramón “Naruterador” Meseguer Fructuoso — to their academy roster. Coach Mario “Motroco” Martínez García was released, while Polish analyst Julia “aceum” Nowak was also moved to the team academy side.
In their place are British head coach Peter Dun, alongside Christopher “SeeEl” Lee as the team’s strategic coach and analyst Josip “ChaosDAD” Sokolić. Having recently recruited Alvar “Araneae” Martin Aleñar as the organization’s director, Team Heretics also added Micheal “Garki” Bolze as Head of International Operations, Niklas Geiß as Team Manager, and Rob Davies as Head of Performance.
