HEROIC announced the benching of the entire Counter-Strike 2 academy roster on Friday, ahead of a system restructure and focus on building a new project.

HEROIC explained that the drastic decision was made to start a complete reorganization of the academy division, aiming to create a new secondary lineup with a clearer connection to the main CS2 team.

“The new structure will place more emphasis on creating a direct pipeline between the Academy and HEROIC’s main roster,” read the announcement.

“With closer cooperation between Academy staff, players, and our main team coach Tobiz, we aim to give young talent a clear framework for development and a tangible opportunity to prove themselves at the highest level.”

HEROIC formed their CS2 academy division at the start of April, by acquiring Andreas “anber” Brandt, Rasmus “Scr0b” Poulsen, Bertil “Dengzoe” Dengsø Vest Hansen, Vladyslav “St0m4k” Lykhoshva, and David “fnl” Mușuroiu, who has recently left the Norwegian organization on a trial loan to Nexus Gaming.

Since the creation of the team, HEROIC Academy have attended a handful of lesser online tournaments, but have not won a single trophy.

They placed second at Gamebox Masters 2025 and fourth at European Pro League Season 27 Division 2.

Those were two of HEROIC Academy’s most notable tournament finishes, in addition to qualifying for CCT Season 3 European Series #3, where HEROIC Academy placed last.

Lack of success, however, was not the main factor that led to the benching. Rather, it was HEROIC’s intend to go down a different path with their academy division to help their main roster grow.

The benched HEROIC Academy players are expected to keep competing together under a different name while they explore their options. The future of fnl, however, remains uncertain as he continues his loan at Nexus Gaming.

While the organization works on rebuilding the academy division, HEROIC’s main CS2 team is just a week away from their next competitive endeavor at FISSURE Playground #2.
