The second day of the BLAST.tv Austin Major delivered high-stakes clashes and dramatic turnarounds as two teams locked in their spots for Stage 2, while two others saw their campaigns come to a swift end.
HEROIC became one of the first Counter-Strike 2 squads to seal progression after a hard-fought 2-1 win over FlyQuest. The Danish-majority lineup kicked off strong with a 13-7 win on Ancient, dominating early thanks to Andrey “tN1R” Tatarinovich’s commanding counter-terrorist presence.
FlyQuest rallied on Anubis, overturning a one-map deficit to edge out a 13-11 win, but couldn’t maintain momentum in the decider. On Mirage, HEROIC’s attacking half ran rampant, closing the series with a convincing 13-6 scoreline to book their place in the next stage.
B8, meanwhile, overcame Wildcard in a 2-1 series to reach their first-ever top-24 Major appearance. After letting Train slip away in overtime (14-16), the Ukrainian squad bounced back with dominant performances on Dust2 (13-6) and Inferno (13-2).
Daniil “headtr1ck” Valitov was instrumental in B8’s Dust2 demolition, while Alexey “alex666” Yarmoshchuk and Dmytro “esenthial” Tsvir held down key sites with ease on Inferno.
In a North American showdown, NRG got the better of Complexity with a 13-9 win on Inferno. The victory puts NRG one step away from Stage 2, while Complexity now sit on the edge of elimination after arriving in Austin without their AWPer Håkon “hallzerk” Fjærli, due to visa issues.
Jadan “HexT” Postma’s ace set the tone early for NRG, and although Complexity showed flashes through Johnny “JT” Theodosiou and Danny “Cxzi” Strzelczyk, they were ultimately unable to overcome their offensive inconsistencies. Complexity must now win out to avoid a surprise early exit.
Imperial Esports kept their Major hopes alive by eliminating Metizport with a 2-0 sweep. The Brazilians edged out Nuke in overtime (16-13) before crushing the Swedes on Dust2 (13-2). Santino “try” Rigal delivered a standout showing on the AWP across both maps, while Kaiky “noway” Santos’ pistol round triple on Dust2 helped Imperial cruise to a lopsided finish. Metizport’s 0-3 run ends their Austin journey.
In one of the most surprising results of the day, Chinggis Warriors knocked out Brazilian side Fluxo with a 2-1 series win. After dropping Ancient 10-13 to a dominant Kayke “kye” Bertolucci, the Mongolian squad recovered to steal Mirage 13-11 and obliterate Fluxo 13-2 on Nuke.
Unudelger “controlez” Baasanjargal led the way with exceptional numbers across the final two maps, including a 1.68 rating on Nuke. Despite a promising Mirage performance from Matheus “mlhzin” Marçola, Fluxo were undone by sloppy post-plants and mental fatigue. The loss, according to in-game leader Andrei “arT” Piovezan, was “the worst” he’s felt in his career, admitting the team was “mentally broken.”
