EDward Gaming and Team WE will cross swords on Thursday, July 20, in the first round of League of Legends Pro League (LPL) 2023 Summer Playoffs. It’ll mark their second meeting of the summer split and the first since July 1, when EDward Gaming won 2-1.
Team WE and EDward Gaming finished the regular season in eighth and ninth place respectively, just one point apart, and they’ve both struggled in the final stretch. EDward Gaming ended the regular season with two defeats against Weibo Gaming (0-2) and Oh My God (1-2), while Team WE have lost four straight against Royal Never Give Up (1-2), JD Gaming (0-2), FunPlus Phoenix (0-2), and Bilibili Gaming (0-2).
A four-game losing streak doesn’t look good, but Team WE deserve some slack since the final two games didn’t matter, as they had nothing left to fight for. So as bad as their loss against FunPlus Phoenix looks, we shouldn’t focus much on it.
That defeat is likely the main reason why Team WE are priced as underdogs for this match, since it’s tough to say that EDward Gaming have looked any better this split. These two teams have very similar performance metrics, and it’s hard to justify saying one is better than the other.
The market is still very bullish on EDward Gaming, as it has been this entire split, but this looks like a 50-50 match at best. Team WE at the offered LPL betting odds is an excellent value bet.
