9z

9z Team announced the departure of their coach, Gustavo “yel” Knittel, who leaves the Counter-Strike 2 team after just five months.

“Today we have to say goodbye to yel from our CS2 main team. Thank you so much for the great months with us; 9z will always be your home,” read the post from the official 9z Team X account.

Yel joined 9z Team in January, shortly after getting benched by KRU Esports, where the 33-year-old started his coaching career.

During his time at KRU, yel has failed to lead his team to a single tournament title and ended his stint with a 12th-14th-place finish in the Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024 American RMR tournament.

His journey with 9z Team was hardly more successful, as the South American Counter-Strike 2 squad have not come close to winning a tournament this season.

In his debut as 9z coach, yel saw his men crash out of Ace South American Masters Spring 2025 closed qualifiers in ninth-12th place.

Things did not improve in the following months.

9z Team exited CCT Season 2 South American Series #7 and Series #8 in ninth-16th place, without securing a single victory.

Despite their struggles, 9z Team successfully qualified for FiReLEAGUE Buenos Aires 2025, which they attended without yel, who missed the event due to health issues and was replaced by Bruno “BIT” Lima.

Unexpectedly, 9z Team produced their best result of the season at the Argentinian LAN event, where they came two rounds short of beating Imperial Esports in the grand final and securing a ticket for Roobet Cup 2025.

Despite 9z’s recent resurgence, yel’s journey with the team was underwhelming, putting a question mark on the Brazilian’s coaching career.

Following the announcement of his departure, yel has not commented on whether he has a new coaching position lined up. Instead, he will focus on streaming for the foreseeable future.

9z Team, on the other hand, have yet to reveal who will fill in the vacant spot; however, with no tournaments lined up, the South American squad are in no rush to find yel’s replacement.

9z Team are currently ranked 61st in the global standings and 92nd in the Valve Regional Standings.
